Pea Pickers

We are all back at home again. The sugar snap and snow peas got picked today. We got the best crop we have ever grown at this location, but in leaving them on the trellis until almost June I am starting my cucumbers much later than ever before. We’ll see how that goes.

The pea vines will be snapped off at the roots. The tops will be composted, but the roots will be left in the ground to rot. Both parts are just full of the nitrogen that other plants need.

  1. We just finished picking the last of our peas as well. Not a great yield this year but there’s always next year. We also mulch the tops.
