Garden overview as fall begins – 2010

I tore out many of the vines I had been mowing around and had a marathon lawn mowing event this past weekend.  Seriously, my compost pile is FULL!  Most things in the garden are dead or quickly dying. I’m still producing a few straggling tomatoes, I harvested a handful of gourds and cucumbers, and I have some basil hanging on. It’s definitely fall.

I found something rather interesting as I was tearing out the vines. A watermelon the size of a golf ball accidentally got stepped on. It broke in half and to my surprise it was ready to eat! Red and delicious, with a few brown seeds, but only 2 inches in size. Strange!

Be glad I didn’t post the pre-mowing pictures. It was horrible!
