“Florida Basket” tomatoes – 2010

So far, so good, with the “Florida Basket” variety of tomatoes.  The plants are growing well and flowering, but staying pretty small.  They need water almost every day already, so I might need to work out a system involving damming my rain gutters, drilling holes and hot-gluing some rubber hose.  Or maybe I’ll just remember to water them.

  1. Great idea! I have some of those baskets too… they look so pretty! I’ve never heard of “Florida Basket” tomatoes… are they indeterminate?

    • No, these are open-pollinated determinates, if I have been told correctly. The description from the catalog I bought the seeds from said:

      Florida Basket (30 seeds)
Perfect for growing in hanging baskets, this low-growing plant creeps 4 to 6 inches over a container’s edge. Delicious, 1 inch diameter fruit. Resistant to gray leaf spot. Determinate. 70 days.

  2. OK! Will look forward to seeing more pictures as it grows!
