I have been searching, off and on, for two years for a good barbecue sauce recipe to can at home. I want a very thick, very sweet and lightly spicy dark brown sauce when I’m done. My most important stipulation is that the first ingredient in the recipe may not be “1 bottle of ketchup.”
Does anyone have a favorite that is made using entirely “from scratch” ingredients?
EDIT: I FOUND ONE

I am a huge, huge fan of Ina Garten’s sauce. She uses a lot of pre-made bottled sauces to start, but the result is a spicy, sweet sauce with a slight asian influence. Smitten Kitchen posted the recipe here: http://smittenkitchen.com/2006/08/barbeque-agnostic/
